Lake Lanier Fishing Report October 16-21, 2022
Lake Lanier report: 21 October 2022
Water temp: 68 @ Tidwell @ 1pm today
Water level: 4.26 feet low and falling
I was out 4 days this week. As expected, the water temps dropped with the arctic blast we had. The lake is turning over, and fish are pretty scattered from what I saw this week. You can find some up shallow, mid depth, and out over deeper water.
I fished below Port Royal all week focusing mainly on the West side of the lake. My thought process was to fish where the fish had been, and where they are moving to.
The most productive baits again this week were the Trixster custom baits tricky shad and a 95 series Gunfish. BUT…we have a new player late this week. The Trixster Tamale has made a return to the productive bait lists, accounting for most of my fish on Wednesday and Friday. Honorable mentions are the Lanier Baits jerk shad and runt.
The majority of the fish came off secondary and hidden points in the mouths of creeks on the top water baits. Some places the fish wanted the soft jerk bait, others they wanted the Gunfish. There was no noticeable pattern on what they wanted and where. It was a crap shoot.
Wednesday afternoon and today, the soft plastics came back into play. Rigged on a Shakey head, DS, or Neko, these rigs produced on clay in the back of the creek. Wednesday caught them shallow and today in about 20FOW. Today, we caught 5 and missed two more off a single “trash pile” using all three rigs. A slow presentation was key to the bites. Move the bait too fast, and no bites, slow down and we got bit.
Keep an eye out for stripers up shallow on points. While not the target species, it’s hard not to enjoy catching one on top. Congratulations to Sal Pinto for catching his PB striper on an artificial bait today.
The bite seems to be improving with the stabilization of weather. Additionally, some water is starting to stabilize from the turn over while other (deeper) water is starting to look worse.
The weather looks great next week and I have a couple days available if you would like to get out. This will be my last week on the ole pond until the week of Thanksgiving.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope everyone has a great weekend on the pond, and don’t forget to like and follow my guide page for mid week updates. I am also always willing to answer a text or Facebook message.
