Lake Lanier Fishing Report October 9-14, 2022

Lake Lanier Weekly report

  • Water temp: 72 on the main lake this afternoon, upper 60s in the mornings

  • Water level: 3.89 feet low

  • Water clarity: main lake is clear, as you go up stream/ back into the creeks the water becomes more stained with the stain working towards the main lake.

Some very exciting days this week and some slower days. The weather played a huge role in how the days went. Tuesday and Wednesday were best with pre-frontal and fontal conditions. Today was the toughest with the high sky’s and no wind until the afternoon.

For the most part, I stayed north of 6 mile venturing all the way up into Johnson creek for some fish twice this week.

The most consistently productive bait this week was a soft jerk bait. I rotated between a Lanier Baits blue ghost jerk shad and a Trixster custom baits 5in tricky shad in pearl white. On the clouded days, I threw the blue ghost while the pearl got the nod when there was sun.

My best locations were points with wind. Smaller “hidden” points were more consistent over the course of the week, but long main lake points produced as well. There are a bunch of spots and stripers mixed in these types of locations so it’s best to keep a firm grip on the rod. If there is a main river/creek channel by the point, even better. Brush was a plus, but not always necessary.

In addition to top water on points, I found some fish up the Chestatee on road beds. These fish were primarily caught on an underspin type bait with a 3.3 Kietech and a jig.

Other baits that produced this week are a sebile, Gunfish, and the Ole drop shot with a Lanier Baits runt.

Lastly, I’m often asked what “new” brush looks like on side scan and down scan. I have included two photos that show a pile that’s less than two months old.

I have some dates available through 30 October. I will be unavailable the first few weeks in November but will be back at it in time for Thanksgiving week and the start of the ditch bite.

As always, let me know if you have any questions or recommendations for these reports.
