Lake Lanier Fishing Report October 24-28, 2022

Lake Lanier report for 28 Oct 22

  • Lake Level is 4.45 feet below full pool

  • Water temps were in the upper 60s yesterday above 53 in the Chestatee arm.

In my 20 years of Army service, I learned that there are times and places to be hard…. With regards to fishing, today was neither. As a result, I have ended up with a shorter than expected week on Lanier leading up to my departure to the Mid-West for three weeks. Today was just not the day to “be hard”.

This week, I rotated between where fish had been and where they are moving to looking for the most productive bite for the day. I found fish that were willing to eat on brush in 10-20 feet of water. These fish were caught casting a DS with a Lanier Baits Runt in Epik Flash and Tri-Color worm in Morning Dawn.

In addition to the brush in 10-20FOW off points and humps, I found fish further back in the creeks in areas where I would toss a jig or shaky head to during the winter. Small hidden points jutting out into a ditch, deep(er) docks near productive ditches, small rock outcroppings etc. To target these fish, I threw a Trixster custom baits jig and a shaky head tipped with a Trixster Tamale in a green pumpkin green color. I also got bit on a Strike King finesse worm as well.

The lake is in full turn over mode. The turnover is working into the deeper water and downstream to the main lake. As a result, the water in the back ½ of many of the creeks and bays is starting to clear up as it is on the downhill slope of the turnover. While at the same time, the main river runs, and lake have yet to peak IMO. What that means is while we have been working towards the main lake the past few weeks to find clean water, we can start looking in the back half of the creeks to find it now. I know a couple of the shallower, smaller creeks were looking a lot better this week than last and there has been a huge improvement between early this week and yesterday in others.

Looking ahead for the weekend, the weather does not look to enjoyable for the fisherman. However, that often equates into better than average fishing. The CAST OG is a great bait to throw in this nasty, windy weather we are having. With water temps in the upper 60s, you may still be able to get a big one to come up.

Females are already to starting to fatten back up, I cleaned two from Blue Ridge for Ryan Hanks on Tuesday and they were already starting to develop eggs for next spring.

If you have any questions or suggestions on what you would like to see me write about over the next few weeks, please let me know. I am currently booking for the week of Thanksgiving and into December. This is a great time to get on the water as the fish should be bunched up and willing to bite while we still have relatively moderate temps.

Speaking of CAST, I just looked and they still have some 12lb braid in stock on line.

Over the next three weeks, I will be making some posts on what my set ups are for the winter ditch bite along with some more information on what and how I do certain things. Please be sure to “like” and “follow” my business page to ensure you do not miss any of this information.
