Lake Lanier Fishing Report October 2-7, 2022
Lake Lanier Weekly Recap
Lake level : 3.63ft low
Water temps: mid 70s
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde….. that is the best way I can sum up the past week on Lanier. I have been out 5 of the last 6 days and I have had some of great outings, and some not so great
outings.
The good news is there are some absolute giants that are biting right now. The downside is you may not catch many in the process. The pond will greatly reward you one day then humble you the next. Fishing….
I threw three baits for virtually all of my fish this week. 95 series chrome gun fish, green and orange 3/8oz true grit jig, and a soft jerk bajt (Lanier Baits and Trixster custom baits)
This week, the points far exceeded the humps for me. Particularly, hidden points that are not obvious when looking at the bank. These less obvious areas along with secondary points in the mouths of creeks in 15/20 FOW have been the most consistent.
I will fish these areas first with the top water or fluke first. If I see fish on the bottom with forward facing sonar, and they will not come up, I toss the jig around a few times before moving on. As with last week, a slower than usual presentation with the fluke got more strikes.
Lastly, if you find a lot of feeding fish in an area, you can camp out on them. They will surface every 15-20 minutes and you increase your chances of getting one to eat. This is not as exciting, but you will burn a lot less gas and may catch just as many.
As with many things in life, persistence pays off. Just when you think the lake has won, she will cough up a fish that makes it all worth it. As I have said, this is the most rewarding lake I’ve ever fished but it also can be the most frustrating.
I have some dates available next week. If you are interested, give me a call/text at 770-715-9933
