Lake Lanier Weekly Report December 5th - 9th, 2022
Lake Lanier Weekly Report for 9 December 2022
Lake Level is 3.1 feet below full pool. This is up ~1.3 feet from week ago.
Water Temps ranged from 55 to 61 depending on location on the lake and what graph I was looking at.
The lake is still pretty clear on the main lake and heavily stained towards the backs of the major creeks and up the rivers.
A word of caution before I get into this past weeks fishing. With all the rain and rising water levels, there is a TON of debris floating around right now.
The fishing has been OK for me. The fish seem to still be scattered but the numbers in the ditches are improving. I was able to catch fish twice on back to back casts yesterday. Which is a great sign for winter fishing.
With the mild temps, you can fish your strengths and catch fish. If you are a deep water guy, that bite is there. If you are a shallow rock and rock type of guy, that bite is there too. From Jigs to spoons to crank baits and DS, there are fish that will play.
With the fish being scattered, it’s been pretty hit or miss on locations. Even if the fish are there, they have been moody. Dragging a Trixster custom baits money maker and tamale have been the most productive baits over all for me this week. The key has been to drag it and not over shake it. Just drag and pause, drag and pause. This will work both in the ditches as well as rocky primary and secondary points.
The Kietech/ Prodigy bite picked up some this week as well. This is my favorite bite of the winter time and it should only improve next week with more seasonal temps on the way. Gizzard shad for the Kietech and the Blue moon for the 3in Cast Fishing Co - USA prodigy.
Lastly, the old stand by DS has produced this week as well. I’ve been casting it with a 4.5in morning dawn finesse worm. Again, drag and pause, drag and pause. I used this bait to target individual fish around isolated pieces of cover that I saw in Livescope.
I have dates available through 27 December if you want to get out. Additionally, if you are wanting to gift a learning experience for Christmas, gift certificates are available.
Best of luck to everyone on the water this next week, I’ll see you on the water.
Jeff.
