Lake Lanier Fishing Report September 9th-15th, 2023
Lake Lanier and Lake Allatoona Weekly Fishing Report
September 15, 2023
Water Level: 4.63 feet BELOW full pool and falling.
Water Temp: Low to mid 80s. With the days continuing to get shorter and the projected forecast calling for lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s, will continue to creep down.
Water Clarity: The clearest water is still on the main lake and in the mouths of the main lake creeks.
I spent the past 4 of the last 7 days on Lanier and 3 on Allatoona. The fishing this past week was good to good+ on Lanier. It was not what I would call very good, but it was close, especially for September. As I mentioned last week, September can lead to stingy numbers on Lanier, but the lake will give up some good ones. This week was a prime example of that.
Lake Allatoona is fishing incredibly well for numbers of spotted bass right now and will give up a good one here and there as well.
Lake Lanier
There were two baits that ruled in my boat for Lanier this week. The Jackall riser 007 and the 95 series Gunfish. With the cooling water temps, the fish are starting to chase top water baits more aggressively and consistently than they have been the past few weeks. These two baits worked equally well but not on the same days. One day the riser would excel while the next day the Gunfish would rule the roost.
My suggestion would be to have several top water baits tied on and rotate through them until you find the one that the fish want on that particular day. Once the fish start to show their preference, then run with that bait.
For locations, the mouths of the creeks to the first 1/3rd back was the most productive. The best depth range this week was less than 25FOW. Its mid September, and things are changing.
The Jerk shad and Tricky shad put some fish in the boat this week as well, but both baits also drew a lot of short strikes.
Lake Allatoona
The best baits on Lake Allatoona this week were the Jackall riser 007, the 4.25in Tricky Shad from Trixster Custom Baits. I am fishing wind blown points and humps in less than 30 FOW with these baits. The fish will let you know if they are there pretty quickly. If they don’t show themselves then go check the next point and so on.
For the September, I have the 18 (late start required), and 19, 21, 22 available for trips on Lanier or Allatoona. I am starting to book dates for October as well and have already booked my available Saturdays. If you are looking for a weekend trip in October, consider getting on the schedule sooner than later.
In celebration of the start of my 3rd year guiding, I am giving each client that books a trip between 14 September 2023 and 25 October 2023 a spool of CAST braid.
If you are looking for more detailed information on my trips over the past week, I publish a daily video covering the conditions, the where, the what, and how I caught fish each day I am on the water. You can sign up at https://jeffnail.uscreen.io
