Lake Lanier Weekly Fishing Report

June 14, 2024

Water Level: The lake level has fallen to .35 feet ABOVE full pool.

Water Temp: Temps are hovering in the upper 70 to low 80s on my Garmin.

Water Clarity: Nothing significant to report on the clarity of the lake, it’s typical clarity for June. Mud lines can be found on heavy boat traffic days around points and banks that have not been lined with rip rap.

I have been on Lanier for 4 of the past 7 days. The fishing has slowed down a little with the higher pressure, low wind and increasing water temps. That being said, if anglers are persistent, good days of numbers and size can still be attained.

With the rising water temps, the TW bite is becoming more inconsistent. We are getting to the point in the summer when Anglers need to become a little more flexible with patterns. While we all love the TW bite, that may not be the best option for numbers or even size for the foreseeable future.

The most productive bait this week was the Drop Shot with a 6in Roboworm. We have targeted the exact same areas that we have targeted with topwater. The fish have not really moved, they have just gotten a little moody and have become a little harder to call up. This has been especially true as the week has progressed.

For the set up, we have been running a 12-16in leader between the hook and sinker. What has been important, is being patient with the presentation. Going from fast topwater presentations to a SLOW DS presentation takes a mental adjustment, one that is much easier said than done. Focus on slowing down, and the bites will come.

For colors, anything in the Morning Dawn color has worked well. If it is the Morning Dawn family and the angler has confidence in it, use it. It’s really that simple right now. There is no reason to over complicate color selection.

My Drop Shot Set Up:

Rod: St. Croix Legend X or Extreme; 6’10 MLXF

Reel: 2500 or 3000 Shimano Stradic

Line: 12lb CAST braid to a 6-8lb Sunline Sniper leader\

Hook: 1/0 or 2/0 Owner Down Shot Offset hook

Sinker: 3/16oz tungsten cylinder weight

BONUS Information: The summer bite on Lake Allatoona seems to be picking up where it left off last year. While the size is not as consistently good as Lanier, Allatoona offers a phenomenal opportunity for anglers to gain confidence in a number of techniques that are very effective on Lanier. FFS is a big help, but look for bass in 15-25 FOW off main lake points and humps as well as in the mouths of the major creeks. Topwater, soft jerk baits, spy baits, underspins, and soft plastics can all be productive.

Additionally, I will not be taking the month of July off as I have in previous years. I will be on the water from the 8th of July through the end of the month. So look forward to more written and video content.

The daily videos I publish cover these techniques in greater detail and all other techniques that were effective over this past week. In these videos, I cover the conditions, part of the lake, and how I caught fish (or did not) for most days that I am on the water. All subscribers will have access to all historical videos as well (275 previous videos). You can sign up and view videos at https://jeffnail.uscreen.io

For the new few weeks, I have the following dates available: June 16, 17, 18, and 21. July: I am pretty open for all days after the 8th. If you are interested in a trip, please reach out and I will get you on the calendar.
