Lake Lanier Fishing Report August 19th-24th, 2023
Lake Lanier Weekly Fishing Report
August 24, 2023
Water Level: 3.19 feet BELOW full pool.
Water Temp: Upper 80s. With the projected forecast for the remainder of the week, I would expect to see some water breaking the 90 mark by Saturday afternoon.
Water Clarity: The clearest water is still on the main lake and in the mouths of the main lake creeks. The water gets more color in it the further back in the creeks and up the rivers you go.
This weeks report will be short as the patterns and baits were very consistent.
I spent the past 4 days on Lanier. Numbers continue to be strong, especially for the conditions we have had this week. For August conditions, they do not get much worse than what we have experienced this week, HOT, high pressure, and no wind. As a result, two baits produced the vast majority of my bites/ fish again this week. The Drop Shot and Spy bait.
I am focusing on brush on points and humps in the 20-30ft range. The closer to the main river channel or creek channel the better. I start with the spy bait fan casting it in order to pick up more active fish. If that does not produce anything, I will ease up until I start to see fish to drop on. Generally, you can tell pretty quick if you will get bit by the reaction of the fish on the first drop. If the fish rush to the bait, odds are better than not that you can trigger these fish to bite. While this is not a be all, end all, it is a good rule of thumb.
When the wind blessed us with its presence, the Ima skimmer was very productive. Fished in the same type areas as mentioned above, I was able to call up a number of fish with some very explosive bites. For this bite to exist, there had to be wind. No wind = no bites. It was that simple.
For the remainder of Aug, I only have Saturday and Sunday available for Lake Allatoona. I am starting to book dates for September for both Lanier and Allatoona.
If you are looking for more detailed information on my trips over the past week, I publish a daily video covering the conditions, the where, the what, and how I caught fish each day I am on the water. You can sign up at https://jeffnail.uscreen.io
